Early 2010, Danny Thierens joined ASCOM as managing director.

Arnout Roos
Regional Manager Asia Pacific

Arnout Roos holds master degrees in chemical engineering and industrial engineering & management. Hereafter he followed a post graduate program in process development and design, where he successfully led an industrial process development project in the field of crystallization separation technology. In 2004 he joined ExxonMobil where he was active as process engineer and later as environmental coordinator of the Rotterdam Aromatics Plant. During his career, he lived and worked in Asia several times during projects in Indonesia and the Philippines.

In 2010 Arnout Roos joined ASCOM Separation as Regional Manager Asia Pacific.

Willem de Waard
Regional Manager Sub-Saharan Africa

Willem de Waard graduated in 2001 from the post graduate Process Development School of the University of Twente, The Netherlands, with a degree in chemical process design and contributions to the 2nd symposium on process intensification. After having experienced the challenges of vegetable oil and fat production in a continuous environment as well as the dynamics of logistics, he joined CDS Engineering in 2004 as a process engineer. In 2006 he was sent overseas to reinforce the Singapore office, which covered the entire Asia-Pacific area and Oceania. As this office steadily grew he was responsible for transferring his knowledge to the new process engineers hired.

During his career Willem de Waard has designed conventional and advanced separation equipment for single vessels and large Central Processing Platform processing trains, both for new built and retrofit projects for major oil companies such as Chevron, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil, Kodeco, Petronas Carigali, Premier Oil, PTTEP, Shell, Talisman, Total and Woodside. In 2007 he was a speaker at the 5th Petromin Deepwater & Subsea and Underwater Technology Conference in Kuala Lumpur discussing the technological advancements in subsea separation.

Late 2009, Willem de Waard joined ASCOM Separation as the Regional Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa.

Piet van Leuven
Technical Manager

Piet van Leuven obtained a M.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Twente, The Netherlands, in 1988 and started his career as a project engineer at Klieverik BV, a designer and fabricator of equipment for the paint, ink and textile industries. Among his responsibilities was the introduction of CAD and MRPII systems in to the company.

In 1991 he joined Ingersoll Rand (ARO) at the Belgian European Headquarters as a project engineer for the Product Equipment Group. After several years in 1995 he continued his career at Koch-Glitsch (Otto York), a designer and producer of downstream separation, coalescing, dehydration and extraction equipment, being the manager for the (project) engineering, purchasing, shipping and invoicing departments.

Following his ideals he went to work in 2002 in Gabon for Societé de Development and Conservation aiming to develop low-impact eco-tourism and conservation in Gabon through the concept of ‘tourism pays for conservation’. Here he was responsible for construction, maintenance and logistics on remote jungle locations.

Returning to the Netherlands in 2006 he joined CDS Engineering as senior project engineer, executing new build and re-vamp projects, for the upstream oil & gas producing platforms and FPSO’s.

Piet van Leuven joined ASCOM Separation in 2010 becoming the Technical director.

Rob Schook
Director of Research & Development

Dr. Schook holds a M.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Twente University of Technology and a Ph.D degree in Fluid Mechanics from the Eindhoven University of Technology. He graduated in the field of laminar-turbulent transition which has special applications in the field of aero-engines.

In 2001 Dr. Schook joined CDS Engineering where he became responsible for the development of compact cyclones. His rotating-flow knowledge was extensively used for continuously improving the performance of these separators. During his career he wrote multiple patents for inline-separation equipment like: Deliquidising, Degassing and Desanding. Many of these inline separators are now in operation at facilities of Statoil, Shell and BP and others. Also patents for more conventional systems like hydro-cyclones and bulk-cyclones were developed under his responsibility.

In 2006 Dr. Schook started up the company “Schinfa Engineering” and in 2007 the company “Cyclonomics”.  Both companies own several patents in the field of cyclonic separation technology, sustainable energy and domestic appliances. Early 2009 he joined ASCOM Advanced Separation Company as the Director of Research & Development.
